the point?

This show explores many topics and propels itself through some rather otherworldly manifestations, I’ll admit (re: sex demons). At its core, however, it’s a show about queer people, queer love, and the imperative need for representation of the marginalized in media, finding its roots in the academic theory of disidentification and queer world building. This is a show about queer people that’s not about queer trauma. We deserve that much.

SUMMARY

Navigating puberty is hard enough for the normies. Now imagine a supernatural form of puberty that bends to no one. No rules, no regiments, just pubescent chaos. This is where we meet Lilith, in the midst of finding the strange looking period stains in her underwear while in the bathroom.

This is incredibly upsetting to her. Not because there are tiny creatures wriggling in her panty clot, but more so because these tiny creatures are putting a huge damper on her dick appointment. When she asks her Tinder hookup if he was the kind of guy who loves his woman everyday of the month, he replied with: “soooo, anal?”

And thus we kick off the crux of the two part pilot episode, Lilith consulting her friends for advice in this very trying time. Each conversation with Jaime and Gabe, mulling it over, is like picking the petals off a daisy; he fucks my ass *pluck* he fucks it not *pluck*

In between the back and forth, it is revealed why this is so important to Lilith. She just really wants to fit in with society: live a normal life. She’s tired of her life, particularly her sex life, revolving wholly and completely around her need to feed. She wants to have casual sex, like the rest of the world and gosh darn it she’s not going to let her weird alien period stop her.

This is alarming to Jaime, who feels that men don’t deserve what Lilith is giving them and feels she should change her approach, encouraging her to become a professional dominatrix instead of the white mans booty call. Lilith considers this, but is too focused on her appointment later tonight to really think it over. She puts it on the back burner and heads out for some subpar sodomy.

Gabe joins a reluctant Jaime on her couch while they watch videos on YouTube. Jaime takes rips off her comically small bong, and daydreams aloud. At some point during the daydreams and diatribes, Gabe twists his wrist funny and it becomes incredibly swollen, prompting Jaime to take Gabe to urgent care.

On the drive there, we get a bit more insight into Jaime and Gabe’s relationship as well as learn that no matter what parallel universe you live in, everybody hates the person that lives in your smart phone.

Upon getting to the urgent care center, the pair find Lilith already there in the waiting room. We come to find out that Lilith’s Tinder hookup did not go quite as planned, as it landed her in urgent care with anal fissures. But hey, at least this isn’t the first time. She knew what to expect.

While waiting for the doctor to see her, Jaime begins a serious discussion with Lilith about her safety and wellbeing. She divulges that she cares about her so much and worries when she goes out and meets guys like this. She once again brings up the idea of dimming professionally, because she thinks it can be a  safer more controlled alternative to her random hookups and can also really bring in some much needed cash into their joint household.

This time, the idea really sinks in.

The trio head back home and Gabe plans to just spend the night on their couch. When all parties had retired to their respective rooms, we see Lilith lift up her duvet cover to reveal a small man in a collar living under her bed. This is her pet. She feeds him then asks him to take pictures of her for her new fetish life profile. She’s decided.

As she takes photos, posing with her various gadgets and toys, she plays music from her speakers. Particularly, the theme song from Ratatouille. When he hears this, Gabe busts through the door, sweeps Lilith into his embrace as they waltz the episode out.

future of the show

MDQ // Will Lilith be able to lead a normal life?

The first season long arc will mostly consist of us getting more backstory on Lilith. While the tone and style of the show allows for us to have lots of different episodes, many of which will have nothing to do with furthering plot, what we will see a lot of is flashbacks to Lilith’s childhood and past. We briefly dipped our toes into he backstory in part two of the pilot during her conversation with Gabe, and that will only be expanded upon. We’ll meet Lilith’s mom, Grace, and and get more background on her and the intense, tensioned life the two of them lived in their small house and learn exactly why Jaime calls Lil a regular Gypsy Rose. We’ll see the evolution of Lil and Jaime’s relationship, as well as meet Lilith’s incubus father and get some insight into the few years Lilith spent running with the succubi in Transylvania after she discovered the truth about herself. Lilith’s time in Transylvannia, learning from the succubi and living like them, will also inform viewers a lot on why Lilith has chosen to move back home and why her major dramatic question revolves around wanting to be more human than succubus.

Once lore and rules of the magical world that surround Lilith is more defined throughout season one, this leaves further seasons up for deeper exploration of the rest of our trio. We’ll see Gabe struggle with his desire to pursue studio art versus the pressure from his family to bring wealth and success and pull them out of poverty as the first of them to ever go to college. We’ll see Jaime struggle with forming meaningful romantic relationships as well as double down on her desire for the end of days. Finally, we’ll also see a huge plot twisting development arise out of Lilith falling in love with a girl from her anthro class. After getting into a situationship with this girl, Lilith discovers that she is unable to feed off of the sexual energy of other women, something she’d never tried before. This complicates her life immensely as the girl, who likes Lilith just as much, expresses her desire to be in a monogamous relationship. Will Lilith have to break up with her? Be dishonest? Or risk divulging the truth about herself.
